InspireHer: All Girls STEM Summer Camp

August 24-28, 9:30 AM-12:00 PM, a five-day all-girls STEM summer camp serving 30 girls, supported by 5 high school volunteers.

Monday: Biology

Today, our 9–11 age group explored osmosis through our Gummy Bear Osmosis experiment and built Candy DNA Models to learn more about DNA structure. Our 12–14 age group used Punnett squares to create their own monsters and explored genetic inheritance. They also made DNA bracelets while learning about DNA structure and base pairing.

Tuesday: Chemistry & Scientific research

Today was all about chemistry and scientific research, and our campers dove right in.

Our 9–11 age group made their own slime and got creative with Pipetting Pixel Art, practicing precision and fine motor skills while making colorful designs. Our 12–14 age group also made slime and kicked off their Research Project on the Scientific Method, learning how to ask questions, form hypotheses, and think like real scientists.

Wednesday:  Coding

Our 9–11 age group explored coding through Scratch, learning the basics of programming while creating their own interactive projects.

Our 12–14 age group learned the fundamentals of Python and used their new skills to create their own text-based games.

Thursday: Physics

Both age groups explored physics through hands-on activities designed to help them understand motion, sound, forces, and pressure.

Day 5: Engineering

Tomorrow is the last day of InspireHer STEM Camp, and we’re excited to finish the week with some fun engineering challenges!

Students will use creativity, problem-solving, and engineering design to build, test, and improve their solutions.

We’ll also be taking some time tomorrow to make thank-you cards for Little East Side Learners to show our appreciation for allowing us to use their classroom and supplies throughout the week. We’re so grateful for their support in helping us make this camp possible!
